Profile of the month: RIID’s dream is a well-functioning business
Maj Beldring Henningsen is the CEO of the newly established small company Riid, which offers Genomics as a Service Platform for collaborative interdisciplinary projects of any size.
”With DNA/RNA sequencing becoming indispensable for basic life-science research, and in applied fields such as medical diagnosis, biotechnology, forensics, virology, archaeology and environmental research, our goal is to develop the best and most user-friendly Genomics as a Service Platform for collaborative interdisciplinary projects of any size,” Maj Beldring Henningsen explains.
One of the few
For now, Riids platform is one of the few online available genomic platforms that can handle even very big and buggy data. Furthermore, the platform allows multiple uploads and parallel analysis of these, allowing an easier and more precise approach to metagenomics. The platform is user-friendly so it can be adapted to a future where genetic analysis will be performed in real time in the lab, in the ambulance, at the fisher boat or at the hospital ward by non-bioinformaticians.
A four-year strategy
Riid’s funding team, which also counts Rastislav Monošík and Ronald Jaramillo, understands both the final user with a limited bioinformatic experience as well at the techniques and programs needed to offer the best platform for genomics. Riid has a strategy that not only includes genomics as a service but within the next four years also user-friendly mobile platforms with real time diagnosing, as well as a sequencing laboratory with state-of-the-art approaches. “As we are still an early startup,” Maj Beldring Henningsen says, “our primary dream is to make this into a well-functioning business, so for now, we are looking for funding opportunities.”
