Profile of the month: Working to support Denmark combating the COVID-19 disease

24-03-2020

PentaBase has a busy time, right now, working on several initiatives to support the detection of COVID 19 and currently setting up meetings with the Danish Health Care Authorities. The company already has a remarkable export of COVID 19 reagents to other countries.

We have communicated broadly about our ability to help out detect COVID 19, because we have technologies and a knowledge that may support healthcare workers, scientists and patients combating the COVID-19 disease: SARS-CoV-2 oligonucleotides, SARS-CoV-2 test assay and instruments for SARS-CoV-2 detection,” Ulf B. Christensen, CEO of PentaBase says.

Proprietary technology to analyse and manipulate genetic material
“For more than 10 years we have created real-time PCR-based products for researchers and medical professionals exploring new treatments and helping patients worldwide. We base our products on our proprietary technology, Intercalating Nucleic Acids (INAs®), which provide unique abilities in analysis and manipulation of genetic material. We make all products with this innovative PCR technology, which allows us to create products that are more robust with increased sensitivity, fast turn-around time and compatibility with most PCR instruments. We use the PCR technology to create custom DNA oligos, primers, probes and NGS adapters. We are experts in developing diagnostic assays for somatic mutations in cancer, which is an important part of personalized treatment of cancer patients,” Ulf B. Christensen explains.

Strong belief in our products
“We have a very strong belief in our products and see ourselves as leading in cancer diagnostics. Therefore, our hope is to see our products at every hospital in Denmark as well as in the rest of the world, because we know they may help make a difference. Our wish is to make detection and monitoring of treatable diseases as early and efficiently as possible and in this way improve the use of personalised treatment of genetic diseases and cancer,” says Ulf B Christensen.

Specialised staff and new talents
At PentaBase every single worker is highly specialised and trained in developing the assays for cancer diagnostics. The company divides the team into different specialised units, each of them experts in their area. Most of the staff have many years of experience in this field, but PentaBase also constantly take in new talents.
